Underwear as outerwear is one of spring’s biggest trends – fear not, we’re not asking you to bare all - think of it as more of a seductive layering affair. Marc Jacobs layered a baby blue silky bra over a blushed dusty pink blouse, note: the shape of the bra (Fifties) and these soft hues (pastels) hint at sweet and pretty rather than all out sex, which, is the desired route to take. Roberto Cavalli followed suit. If this feels too brazen, try a lacy neon-colored camisole under a crisp white shirt for a far subtler way to expose.
Looking to heat things up? Go chic. Tomas Maier at Bottega Veneta teamed an ivory-colored boned corset with a gauzy cream cardigan; it’s a look so smart that it can almost work at the office, until summer’s here, layer a long-sleeved T-shirt underneath.
Head to Marks & Spencer for its collection of elegant nude pieces, and Bodas for its beautifully colored bras, and seek out retro shapes from antique markets, fairs, and vintage shops. Clearly lingerie is making its way from the inside to the outside this spring and in very exciting ways.
